A domain name is your website’s address. It’s unique, and no two domain names can be exactly the same. #
Your domain name consists of two parts:
- The name: this is your brand or business identity.
- The domain extension: this is the website’s (and presumably your business’s) type or category. Over time, certain domain extensions have come to signify specific kinds of businesses: the .com domain extension, for instance, has come to signify commercial business; the .net extension generally hints at a computer-based or network-based business. While in many instances this is by community and historical agreement, there are other extensions that are strictly controlled by issuing agencies.
